Big Will's Team takes the Ryder Cup

Big Will's squad of Tim Cuthbert, Paul McAuliffe, Art Keddy, and Bob Adams overcame a 1 point deficit on day 1 for a resounding 3 point win overall.

Playing in the first group on Sunday, Tim and Paul played Steve Buffington and Paul Rodrigues evenly for the first 6 holes of the opening 9 Scramble. They then took a one hole lead on 7 only to lose it on 8 to Steve and Paul's birdie, but a par on 9 was good enough for the win and to even the entire match. Meanwhile on the course, Bob and Artie were spanking Mark Chalas and Emil Giordano on their way to a 4 and 3 victory, giving the Blue team a slim 1 point lead headed to match play.

Tim birdied 10 to take a quick lead over Steve, but immediately gave it back on 11 with a bogey. Steve took the lead on 13 and stretched it to 2 holes with 2 to play, but a double-double finish cost his team half a point

In a battle of Pauls, Rodrigues manhandled McAuliffe by taking a 3 hole lead after 4 holes, and hung on for a 3 and 1 victory

But the tandem of Bob and Artie were just too much in the end. Bob has been crushing the Monday and Thursday leagues this year, and his quality play carried over to the weekend, capped by a 3 and 2 victory over Mark. There is a pending investigation into Bob's handicap.

Artie made the most of the 2 strokes he was getting for Emil, in a back and forth match that saw them tied headed to 16, where Artie would get a stroke on the next 2 holes. They tied both holes gross, which gave Artie a 2 and 1 victory. Emil's birdie on 18 was a hollow victory symbolic of the overall performance of Will, Jr.'s squad this year. Changes will be made for next year, mark my words.

Club Championship Recap

Tim Cuthbert won the Club Championship for his fourth time in dramatic fashion by one stroke over Kevin Magnarelli and 2 shots over defending champion Eric Fernandez. Kevin shot a 65 on the first 18 for a 1 shot lead over Eric, who was victimized by a 9 on the eighth hole which included a lost ball that never came out of a tree. Tim's first round also didn't go without incident, as he was forced to take a 2 stroke penalty for putting into a flagstick that he himself had removed from the cup.

After 9 holes on the second round, Kevin had extended his lead to 2 over Eric and 4 shots over Tim. Tim started the back nine birdie-birdie, while Eric stared par-par, and Kevin bogey-bogey to make a 3-way tie for the lead with 7 to play. Tim immediately made a double on 12, and Kevin bogeyed 13 to give Eric a one shot lead on the 14th tee. Unfortunately, that's where Eric's dreams of a repeat died as he made 3 straight bogeys and then a double on 17.

Kevin made a birdie on 15 to get a one shot lead, which became 2 shots when Tim bogeyed 16. Kevin then hit his tee shot on 17 into the bog and failed to get up and down making it a tie on the 18th tee. Tim hit a hybrid down the middle of the fairway, and Kevin bombed a driver into the pond. After his drop, he stuffed his approach shot to 5 feet, leaving him with a par putt that would force a playoff. Unfortunately for him, it didn't go, and Tim's routine par carried him to victory.

Steve Buffington Wins the Southers Marsh Cup

Steve Buffington is the first repeat winner of the Southers Marsh Cup, leading virtually wire to wire. Paul Rodrigues tried to make a charge but faded down the stretch in the last 2 tournaments. Tim Cuthbert rode his strong finish in the last 2 events into 2nd place, and Andy Rosen held on for 3rd.
