Golf Course Reviews

New England Golfguide

Southers Marsh Golf Club has been rated the #1 Public Golf Value
in Massachusetts every year from 2005-2015!

"One of my ten favorite courses in Massachusetts. It has 18 wonderful holes, and the nicest, most sincere group of owner managers you'll find anywhere, the Stearns family. They care about their golfers and they care about their course."

—John DiCocco
Editor, New England Golf Guide

The New England Golfguide rates 650 public courses in New England for overall quality and Value Rating™.

Golf Digest defines a 4 star rating as "Outstanding: Plan your next vacation around it."

Southers Marsh is a par-61 course measuring slightly more than 4,100 yards. But you will be challenged on every shot as you play around actively maintained cranberry bogs and between tight tree-lined fairways. The course demands a succession of carries over wetlands and is visually stunning, mentally intimidating and, in the end, a completely rewarding experience.

—New England Golf and Leisure
(Summer 2015)

The course plays all around and over the active cranberry bogs and when the ripe berries are floated to the surface for fall harvest the views are spectacular. The friendly atmosphere, courtesy of the Stearns Family, is like being over to the house for a cookout. This is a pretty cool scene.

—Commonwealth Golf
(Summer 2008)

"The course is fun, in a word, and not in the 'executive' style sense of the word. Southers Marsh is a real 18 holes without any lapses in legitamacy, like a 250 yard par 4 or a 75 yard par 3 which is often the case at other executive courses. Southers Marsh will keep you on your tees and also keep you comfortably entertained by the beauty of the design and layout."

2005 Golden Sprinkler Award for Plymouth County

The Golden Sprinkler Award takes into consideration all aspects of golf course maintenance, service, speed of play, and overall presentation.

"As you get back to the clubhouse you realize that not only have you experienced a great golf adventure, but you have visually stimulated with all the natural beauty. The love that the Stearns family put into building this course, and the passion they continually show in the running of the business, makes this course a must play."

"This is a perfect setting for corporate outings, golf tournaments, and weddings."

—Little Black Book of Golf
(Summer 2006)

"Southers Marsh may be the most spectacular setting for golf in the country when the flooded bogs become bright red with succulent cranberries in autumn."

"The staff is smiling and the prices are more than affordable for such a unique golfing experience."

—Pub Links Golfer Magazine
(Late Summer/Early Fall 2003)

"Southers Marsh is a brand new layout in Plymouth and may turn out to be the best (numero uno) executive-style layout in the entire state. And don't be confused by the word 'executive,' this 18 hole gem is challenging from tee to green and delivers one of the best golfing experiences you'll find anywhere-public, private, 18-holes, 9-holes, par 3, whatever. It's a definite 'must play' for the summer of 2002."

—golfBoston Travel & Leisure Magazine
(Summer 2002)

They were forced to think outside the box. Just so long as they stayed off the cranberry bogs and within the borders of their land. A most difficult task, to be sure, but somehow, some way, they pulled it off to create a most enjoyable golf experience.

—Jim McCabe, Boston Globe

"If Ocean Spray had built this course, it would be called 'Ocean Spray National' - it's that good!"

"Make sure you put this course on your play list. It's a challenge, it plays fast, it's easy on the wallet, and it's just plain fun."

—Golf on Cape Cod Magazine
(Spring/Summer 2002)

"Southers Marsh [is] a course short on yardage, but not on character or challenge."

—New England Jornal of Golf
(Spring 2002)

"True, this is only a par 61 course but with the service, challenge and conditions it is a bargain that should not be missed."
